Dessert Pizza: Mixing Sweet with Savory
Typically when we think of pizza it conjures up images of melted, gooey cheese topped with just the right amount of mouthwatering meats and other savory delights. And while no one is a bigger fan of a classic Neapolitan pizza than the Kalamazoo team, sometimes it’s nice to switch it up and use a different cast of flavor combos. Pizza has long been a dinner time favorite, but it can also make a great dessert. Experiment with fresh, seasonal fruits and rich, creamy cheeses for delicious results. Burrata is an indulgent Italian cheese that’s very versatile. Essentially it is a ball of fresh mozzarella, stuffed with cream. The sweet blackberries balance the creaminess of the cheese, while fresh basil leaves and olive oil add a hint of savory flavor.
This pizza comes to us courtesy of Mel’s Kitchen Café blog. She uses buttery baked apple and tops them with cinnamon streusel and a drizzle of sweet vanilla glaze. This pizza would be the perfect dessert for a crisp fall evening.
The combination of chocolate and raspberries is a longstanding favorite. So it seems inevitable that it would end up on the hot, crispy crust of a pizza eventually. The tart raspberries cut through the sweet chocolaty hazelnut spread creating a decadent dessert pizza.
