Yogurt Naan
With just four ingredients and no yeast, this soft, fluffy and delicious homemade naan is simple to prepare and even quicker to bake. Remember to brush with melted butter or ghee as it comes out of the pizza oven and sprinkle with your favorite herbs or seasonings.
- 1¼ cups 2% Greek yogurt
- 2 teaspoons kosher salt
- 2 tablespoons baking powder
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 4 tablespoons melted butter
- Optional toppings: sesame seeds, “Everything Bagel” seasoning or za’atar
Preheat the pizza oven to full power for at least 30 minutes before making the naan. Stir together the yogurt, salt, baking powder and 2 tablespoons of water in a medium bowl. Stir in the flour until combined.
Gently knead in the bowl until smooth. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let sit at room temperature for at least 10 minutes and up to 1 hour.
Divide the dough into 5 equal portions (each about 3 ounces each) and roll into balls on a flat surface. Keep the dough loosely covered with plastic wrap on the surface until ready to bake, up to 30 minutes.
Lightly flour your work surface. Using a rolling pin, roll one of the dough balls into an oval shape about ⅛-inch thick (it should be about 9 x 4 inches).
Transfer to your pizza peel and place in the pizza oven. Cook for a few minutes until the top is bursting with air bubbles and the bottom is golden and blackened in spots.
Flip the naan and cook about 1 minute longer until the bottom is lightly browned and blistered in spots. Remove the naan from the oven. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle the top evenly with desired topping. Place the naan in a tea towel-lined dish to keep warm.
