With a home overlooking Deer Valley, Park City and the surrounding mountains, the owners wanted to create an outdoor entertaining space that would blend seamlessly into the surrounding Utah landscape. With frequent visits from family and friends, they needed an area generous enough for lounging, dining and easy circulation, along with a fully equipped outdoor kitchen ready to handle a variety of meals and gatherings at a moment’s notice. Durability and performance were also major concerns given the extreme mountain climate.

Working directly with Kalamazoo’s in-house Design Studio, the homeowners decided on a compact and efficient U-shaped kitchen. This configuration allowed them to nestle the new outdoor kitchen directly into the sloped mountain landscape and provide an anchor for the significantly expanded patio footprint.

After discussing cooking styles and entertaining needs, they opted to design their kitchen with a full suite of cold and warm storage, cooking products, sink and prep areas. Because the main indoor kitchen is on another level of the house, and given the sizable distance between, it was important to incorporate every cooking capability and ample working space into the outdoor kitchen.

The K750HB Hybrid Fire Grill with a Built-In Double Cooktop serves as the heart of the kitchen, selected for its incredible cooking versatility. The homeowners also added the countertop Artisan Fire Pizza Oven for quick pizza nights and baking their favorite Mediterranean dishes in a skillet. They also chose the under-counter, gravity-fed Smoker Cabinet for its sleek, space-saving format. The kitchen is outfitted with weathertight Signature Series cabinetry and refrigeration, as well as a warming cabinet and pull-out waste and recycling bins.

The natural stone surround of the outdoor kitchen coordinates with the home’s façade, while the dark countertops and sink with bronze faucet echo colorations in the surrounding landscape. A combination of ambient and task lighting also allow the family to cook easily at any time of day, while enjoying dramatic vistas of the Wasatch Mountain Range and sunsets over Deer Valley's Bald Mountain.

“The Kalamazoo design team was terrific in helping us think through all aspects of the kitchen,” says the homeowner. “We love the layout. It is a simple and highly functional.”
