Sagaponack Barn Compound

A restrained composition of barn-inspired forms by Steven Harris Architects and landscape design by RRP | Rees Roberts + Partners creates a quiet retreat rooted in the natural character of the Hamptons.

Sagaponack Barn Compound

Set within the open landscape of Sagaponack, the Barn Compound by Steven Harris Architects balances contemporary architecture with the understated character of the East End. A series of barn-like volumes are carefully arranged across the property, creating a sense of rhythm, openness and connection to the surrounding landscape. The surrounding landscape by RRP | Rees Roberts + Partners embraces the site’s natural textures and expansive setting through meadows, native plantings and outdoor spaces that feel integrated into the environment rather than imposed upon it.

The architecture draws from the agricultural vernacular of the region while refining it through clean lines, restrained detailing and a warm material palette. Large expanses of glass open the interiors to the landscape, allowing shifting light, seasonal change and outdoor living to shape the experience of the home throughout the day. The result is both monumental and quiet, a retreat designed for gathering, reflection and living closely connected to nature.

Outdoor living was approached as a natural extension of the architecture itself. A custom Kalamazoo outdoor kitchen anchors one of the property’s primary entertaining spaces, bringing performance-driven cooking into the landscape. Designed to complement the home’s restrained palette and architectural character, the outdoor kitchen features Kalamazoo cabinetry paired with the Hybrid Fire Grill, allowing the homeowners to cook with gas, charcoal or wood individually or in any combination. The cabinetry’s weather-tight construction and refined detailing support year-round outdoor living while maintaining a cohesive relationship with the surrounding architecture.

Throughout the property, architecture and landscape work together to create moments of intimacy within the larger openness of the site. The Sagaponack Barn Compound reflects a thoughtful approach to modern living where craftsmanship, materiality and connection to the outdoors shape the experience as much as the architecture itself.
